HOW DOES SECURITY FOG WORK ON A FARM?
A Smoke Screen Sentinel unit is installed in the building you need to protect and connected to your intrusion detection — door contacts, beams, or an existing alarm panel including Ajax wireless systems.
On a confirmed break-in: (1) the sensor triggers, (2) the Sentinel activates in under 10 seconds, (3) the space fills with dense, dry fog within 20–60 seconds, (4) visibility drops to under 30cm. The fog is glycol-based, non-toxic, and leaves no residue on machinery, tools or electronics.
Ventilate the building and it clears within the hour — with your equipment still where you left it.
WHY DO FARMS NEED MORE THAN CAMERAS AND ALARMS?
Because on a farm, detection is not the problem — distance is. A camera records a theft; an alarm announces it; neither stops it. In rural areas, the nearest response can be 20, 30, 40 minutes away, and organised crews load a quad bike or strip a workshop in under ten. NFU Mutual’s 2026 report shows why the pressure keeps rising: agricultural vehicle theft up 18% to £8.3m, quad and ATV theft up 31%, and 91% of their agents say rural crime is disrupting farming in their area. Security fog is the only measure that physically intervenes in those first minutes — it makes the building unworkable while the thieves are still inside it.
WHICH SMOKE SCREEN UNIT PROTECTS FARM BUILDINGS?
Farms are exactly what the Sentinel Go was built for: it runs on battery power, so it protects outbuildings, machinery stores and field barns with no mains supply at all. Where there is no phone line or broadband — most farms — the Node 4G connects the system over the mobile network, so activation and alerts work anywhere with a signal. For workshops and smaller stores, the Sentinel S35 or S55 gives rapid coverage; for large machinery sheds and grain stores, the S100 fills thousands of cubic metres. Every unit is EN50131:8 and IEC62642:8 certified and Ajax Ready
WHAT SHOULD YOU PROTECT FIRST?
Start where the losses concentrate. Machinery stores and workshops hold the tractors, tools and parts that gangs target most. GPS guidance units — small, high-value, and easy to resell — are safest locked in a fog-protected store overnight rather than left in cabs. Quad bikes and ATVs, the fastest-rising theft category, fit the same approach. Chemical and feed stores carry both a theft and a liability risk. A zoned deployment protects the highest-value building first and expands as the yard grows — the same approach our warehouse clients use across their estates.

One stolen tractor costs more than the system that keeps it.

The moment intruders break into a machinery store, workshop or barn, the building floods with dense, impenetrable fog. They cannot see the tractor, the GPS units, or the way out. You cannot steal what you cannot see.
